RevTemplate ("we", "us", "the site") is a free tool that helps you find the original template behind a meme image. This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

The short version

• Your uploaded image is analyzed in your browser and never uploaded to our servers.
• We only send a small numerical representation of the image (not the image itself) to our backend to search for a matching template.
• We don't require an account, and we don't store your uploads.
• We use basic analytics cookies to understand site traffic. You can decline these.

What we collect

Images you upload

When you upload or drop an image into RevTemplate, it is processed entirely on your device using an on-device machine learning model. The image itself is never transmitted to our servers or stored anywhere.

To find a matching template, your browser generates a compact numerical "fingerprint" of the image (called an embedding) and sends only that fingerprint to our backend. This fingerprint cannot be used to reconstruct your original image. We do not retain uploaded images or these fingerprints beyond the time needed to return your search results.

Match confidence data

We log aggregate, non-identifying information about search quality — such as confidence scores for matches — to help us understand how well the tool is working and where our template library has gaps. These logs do not include your image or any information that identifies you.

Server logs

Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure automatically logs standard technical information for each request, including IP address, browser type, and timestamp. This is used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention, and is retained for a limited period.

Analytics cookies

With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — for example, which pages are visited and how long people stay. This involves cookies that assign your browser an anonymous identifier. You can decline analytics cookies via the cookie banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site.

What we don't do

• We don't require sign-up or an account to use RevTemplate.
• We don't store, view, or retain the images you upload.
• We don't sell your data to third parties.
• We don't use your uploads to train our models.

Third parties we use

• Google Analytics — anonymized traffic analytics (only if you accept cookies).
• Google Cloud Platform — hosting infrastructure for our website and backend.
• Imgflip — some meme template images are hosted on and linked from Imgflip's servers. When you view a template result, part of that image may be served directly from Imgflip. Their own privacy practices apply to that request; see Imgflip's Privacy Policy.

Your choices

• Cookies: You can decline analytics cookies at any time via the cookie banner.

Data retention

• Uploaded images and embeddings: not retained after your search completes.
• Aggregate match-quality logs: retained for a limited period for product improvement, then deleted or fully anonymized.
• Server access logs: retained for a limited period for security purposes.

Children's privacy

RevTemplate is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the tool evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
